Psyclops is a Maddfilms horror
feature in development. Actually, it's a SLASHER, in the
tradition of Evil Dead & Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

partners.
We
are pleased to announce that the
Department of Communications, Information Technology and the
Arts has granted a Provisional 10ba

FAQ:
Investors.
What
am I buying for my investment?
An investment in Psyclops buys a share of the copyright.
This is proportionate to the share of the budget and ownership
by the creative partners. Therefore, assuming the budget
remains at $3M AUD a contribution of $1M AUD would cover
33.3% of the financial contribution, which would buy 16.65%
of the returns on copyright of the film to an uncapped or
“Blue Sky” level.
Will
the film be finished?
Yes: Experienced independent Completion Guarantors have
assessed the team and the budget and have provided insurance
to the finishing of this film.
Are
there any safety nets for my Investment?
Yes: Psyclops has applied for 10BA certification under the
DCTIA. Based on the proposed team and cast Psyclops was
granted a Provisional Certificate which enables investors
to reduce their taxable income by an amount equal to 100%
of their investment.
How
do Box Office returns relate to returns on Copyright?
The Box office figure relates to gross takings at the cinema.
From this figure the exhibitor retains 67%, the Distributor
retains the remaining 33%. There are various models from
here, however generally the costs of Prints and Advertising
are repaid first and then the remaining returns are split
with the production. Sometimes a “From First dollar”
model will apply – whereby the Production receives
20% and the distributor receives 80% until P&A is covered,
then the proportion changes.
While
this seems like a convoluted approach it is similar to that
of “Retailer – Wholesaler – Manufacturer”
in other industries. The good news is that Copyright extends
beyond the Box Office. This can be via sales to other territories,
sales to TV and Cable networks, and most importantly to
the Horror genre – sales to the lucrative DVD market
and DVD / video rental returns.
Why
should I Invest in Psyclops over any other film?
Investors in Australian films have had their fingers burnt
in the past by films that have been made for too high a
budget for their expected returns. Australians tend to make
Art House films. Even the best Art House film can only be
expected to take between 6 and 20M worldwide, so when you
take the above path to return into account you can see that
spending 4 – 6M on making one of these films is very
risky. Psyclops is a Horror film. Horror is the most successful
genre worldwide spawning countless break-out hits such as
The Blair Witch Project, The Ring, The Grudge and
locally Wolf Creek which has made a profit on territory
sales before it has seen the box office, as did Undead
made in 2003. Last year’s Halloween sensation SAW
was written and directed by Australians. The film was made
for 1.3M US (plus actor deferrals) and returned $60M in
the US cinema alone.
Psyclops
is targeted straight at this same demographic and will be
shot for a modest $3M AUD without any deferrals. This means
the returns all come back to the investors and producers.
