John V Soto's action thriller "Avarice," filmed in Perth, has secured a spot on Showtime's lineup alongside popular series like "Yellowjackets," "Billions," and "Dexter" following its acquisition by the US network.

The film, produced by Filmscope Entertainment and Maddfilms, centers on champion archer Kate (Gillian Alexy) and her husband Ash (Luke Ford) who face a harrowing home invasion during a vacation with their daughter. Kate uses her archery skills to fight back against the mercenaries led by Reed (Alexandra Nell) and Kane (Ryan Panizza), aiming to save her family.

The script, crafted by Adam Enslow, Dane Millerd, Andrew Slattery, and John V Soto, has garnered praise for its gripping narrative. Tim Maddocks, alongside Soto, produced the film with support from Screenwest. Filming took place over four weeks in 2021, and Backlot Films is set to distribute the film in Australia this year.

Epic Pictures, the international sales agent, facilitated a North American rights deal with Showtime, and has since sold "Avarice" to various countries including Germany, China, UK, Japan, South Korea, and the Middle East. Maddocks expressed enthusiasm over Showtime's acquisition, highlighting it as validation for the production team's efforts and the film's broad audience appeal.
