The Last Dingo

SYNOPSIS

Fighting a losing battle against the harsh Australian landscape, a young family’s dreams crumble to dust as wild dogs decimate the last of their livestock and the bank threatens to foreclose and end the work of generations. Years of drought have hardened Eric Harris into a brute tormented by a secret that is tearing him apart - his true father is an Aboriginal stockman and his denial of his heritage tears at his soul.

In his efforts to save what’s left of his farm Eric becomes fixated on native dingoes and in desperation vows to wipe them out. 

His wife Kate feels marooned on the remote property with her emotionally estranged husband. She holds on for her son Dale, hoping that some day things will get better. 

​

Clay, a mysterious drifter enters their lives with a promise to help them find water on their parched land. Tensions build when Eric learns that Clay is wanted by the law but for the moment he needs Clay to finish drilling a bore so looks the other way. A troubled man with a soft heart, Clay is running from his own demons. 

​

One night Eric drags Clay on a dog killing spree but Clay secretly saves the only surviving dingo puppy and gives it to Dale. Lonely and troubled he treasures the last dingo with all his heart despite his fear that his father will shoot it on sight. 

When Eric discovers the dingo Eric is pushed to breaking point but Clay steps in to save the dingo in a brutal fight. Traumatised, young Dale runs away with the puppy into a gathering storm and disappears into the night. As the storm breaks and the rain falls hard, Dale becomes lost in the forest and at the mercy of wild dogs.

They bury their differences to search for Dale but in a race against time Eric becomes trapped by rising floodwaters and Dale pinned under a collapsed windmill. Kate has no choice but to call in Police help and alert them to Clay’s presence.
